Unfortunately, after speaking with Lawrence's agent, Town Assistant boss Dave Cooke told the Shropshire Star: 'The money they're talking about would be astronomical for our level.'
Lawrence is out of contract and wants to leave, but can't go absolutely free because of transfer regulations ensuring a fee due to him being under 24. He made 49 appearances and scored 22 times last term.
Cooke added: 'After speaking to his agent we've found out he's got interest in him from the First Division and we just can't compete with that.'
He also pointed out that Town's coservative approach to spending was an important feature of the clubs success and would not be jeopardised by expensive signings.
