Shrewsbury take another step closer to safety with draw at Chesterfield
Shrewsbury took another step closer to safety with a 1-1 draw at Chesterfield which pushed the home side nearer to relegation.
Tyler Roberts scored his fourth goal since he moved from West Brom on loan but Ian Evatt levelled for Chesterfield before he was carried off injured.
Chesterfield were in trouble as early as the third minute when Gary Deegan played Freddie Lapado in and, after Thorsten Stuckmann could only parry his low drive, Roberts scored from six yards.
Roberts was close to a second in the 24th minute when his shot from 20 yards flashed past Stuckmann but came back off the right post and a minute later Aristote Nsiala fired over from three yards after a free-kick was touched on.
Chesterfield had hardly threatened but they equalised in the 42nd minute when Dan Gardner crossed from the right and Evatt volleyed in from six yards.
But Evatt's afternoon ended in the 65th minute when he was stretchered off with a knee injury and Shrewsbury wasted a great chance to win it in the 87th minute when substitute Stephen Humphrys headed straight at Stuckmann from close range.
