Shrewsbury Town could axe their head of youth strategy Chic Bates following the departure of youth coach Brian Caswell.
"There's nothing to confirm about Chic Bates' position," director Keith Sayfritz told the Shropshire Star.
"I can confirm that Brian Caswell has left the club and that has been for cost cutting measures.
"We have money from the Premier league and other sources to run the youth set up but these have not been finalised so we don't know what money will be available.
"Consequently, we are looking at restructuring the youth team and the immediate thing is to make savings where we can.
"We are disappointed this has happened but we need to look at all areas of the club to see where savings can be made."
