"If I'd known it was going to be so long, I could've mentally got round it," he told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"But with the support of my family and the medical staff at the club, I've got through it - and the goal against Barnet was a big relief."

Disley picked up a medial ligament injury early in the season, but his recovery was curtailed twice - in a comeback reserve game, and then in a training session.

"When you keep seeing the light at the end of the tunnel being taken away from you, it makes it hard," he said. "But you've got to be professional and keep going, keep motivated. I'm back now, and looking forward."

Disley was a consistent scorer for his previous clubs Mansfield and Bristol Rovers and joined Shrewsbury in the summer.

"I've made my name as an attacking midfielder, and hopefully the fans will now see that's what I'm about - coming forward from a central position," he said.

"The goal against Barnet was a relief, but hopefully there are more to come."
