And it has emerged that one player had been interesting Champions League winners Liverpool before heading for the Meadow.

The pair, Steven Hogg and Ben Herd, are both 19 and reflect Gary Peters' transfer ethos.

Hogg, a former Man Utd trainee, is rated highly and has trained with
Liverpool. It has emerged that Peters' connections had helped in the capture of the duo.

Hogg, a central midfielder, was described by Peters as having "awesome" potential. Peters told ShrewsWeb: "When
Liverpool were talking to him, he was still talking to us. And he hadn't made his mind up where he wanted to go."
Ben Herd

The gaffer went on to describe the midfielder's left foot as a "wand" and revealed that it was through the Neil Ashton transfer deal that Town were recommended to Hogg.

And Peters also beat off competition from a higher league to secure the services full-back Herd.
Bournemouth were also interested in the youngster, who came personally recommended by former Watford boss Ray Lewington.

Neither player has first team experience, but this does not worry Peters, who is hoping to build a young squad.

The recent signings have reinforced the defence and midfield, but Town still need a proven goalscorer and backup for Joe Hart in goal.
