Ex-Town loan man Andy Thompson has been released by Cardiff City.

It has been revealed by the official Cardiff City website that left back Andy Thompson, who was on loan at Gay Meadow for two months, has been released from his contract at Ninian Park, which will now enable Town boss Kevin Ratcliffe to sign the ex-West Brom, Wolves and Tranmere man on a permanent basis.

Thompson, who spent nearly eleven years at Molineux, made his debut for Salop as a substitute in the 3-1 defeat of champions elect Plymouth Argyle back in January after fellow left back Greg Rioch was red-carded, since then Thompson has made nine starts in a Shrewsbury shirt before being sent back to South Wales a week ago after Thompson sustained a injury in a training ground incident, in order to free up a loan spot ahead of the transfer deadline at the end of this month. It is expected that Thompson will sign permanently for Shrewsbury Town as soon as he is match fit again.
