Jimmy makes Cunning signing

Quinn made the signing after his midfield options were cut down by injury and international call-ups.

20-year-old Fox has a good pedigree, having played for England at various under-age levels. He has also spent time with United's feeder club Royal Antwerp and has been a regular for the reserves.

Although Jimmy Quinn says he thinks of Fox as a holding midfielder, Fox himself sees himself more in the Scholes mould.

Quinn explained the signing of Fox to ShrewsWeb, saying: 'With Jamie Tolley and Dave Edwards away with Wales, and with Ben Smith out with a shoulder injury I've been looking to strengthen.'

Fox is likely to go straight into the team for Friday's game against Rusden, and will remain at the club for a month. But Quinn admitted he could pursue a longer-term deal.

He said: 'We've got him for a month and we'll take if from there, if we like David and he likes us then we'll see what happens.'

The loan move emphasises a good relationship between Shrewsbury and United, following the successful loan of Lee Lawrence last season.
