Shrewsbury saw off the Manchester side with an average performance. The game saw debuts for new signings John Grant and Stuart Whitehead aswell as a run out for trialist Melford Knight.

Luke Rodgers scored the only goal of the game, which took place as part of the deal which saw Jody Banim join Town last year. Banim played for 30 minutes against the club who rate him as one of their best ever players.

Teenage keeper Joe Hart saved a penalty after he had felled a Borough striker in the box.
