"It's almost a trial basis for the European Australians," Cansdell-Sherriff's club manager Graham Turner told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"We keep our fingers crossed he doesn't pick up any injuries."

The Sydney-born defender has made over 100 appearances for Shrewsbury since joining Town in 2008.

"We're pleased he's got the opportunity to go and improve himself for a good footballing nation now. I think Australia has good players, so for him to be invited to go and training with them is testament to how will he's been playing for Shrewsbury," Turner added.

Cansdell Sherriff does have international experience, gained as part of the Australia squad to play in the 2004 Olympics in Greece. Australia lost 1-0 to Iraq in the quarter-finals.
