Ternent ended his time at Burnley in March last year after keeping the team in the top flight for five seasons.

He has a reputation for making the best use of limited resources and is well respected in the management arena. It is understood that he would be amenable to any approach from Town's board.

Another name mentioned is that of Danny Wilson. The former Barnsley and Sheff Weds manager confirmed his interest in getting back into football with Town.

He told the Shropshire Star: "I am out of work at the moment so obviously I would consider anything. I am prepared to think about anything where I can get job satisfaction."

Wilson added that he had not had any direct contact with the Shropshire club.

Town Director Keith Sayfritz reassured fans that there was no shortage of interest in the job. He said: "We have had a number of high-quality applications already and we would expect more in the next few days."
