Shrewsbury's new manager Graham Turner has warned his squad that pre-season training is about to get tougher.Turner and assistant John Trewick met many players for the first time when the squad reported for duty five weeks ahead of their first League Two game.

"We're very aware of the possibility of pulls and strains, so we do take a lot of time in warm-ups and warm-downs," Turner told BBC Radio Shropshire.

Trewick added: "Team bonding is also important as we all start together."

Turner was brought in over the summer to replace the sacked Paul Simpson, returning to a club he first managed in the 1980s. In bringing in Trewick, he has renewed the partnership they enjoyed for a long spell at Hereford United.

"The first two days we concentrate on basic fitness and getting back into a routine," said Trewick.

Turner has also introduced a new weights programme, under the control of former GB Olympic weightlifter Tony Ford.

Shrewsbury's first competitive action will be in a multi-club tournament in Devon from July 19, returning for a pre-season friendly at home to Coventry on July 27.
