Simpson wants to help out father

Jake Simpson says that father Paul's job is on the line at Shrewsbury, but has urged his team-mates to turn things round for Town and the under-fire boss."The manager takes the flak and will fall if things don't go right," he told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"But the dressing room has to have responsibility. There are 11 on the pitch who have to go out and perform.

"It's not nice to hear your dad ranted at, but as a pro I've got to put everything aside and do my job."

Six successive defeats have all but shot Shrewsbury's play-off ambitions to pieces, and the boss has already commented on how he feels some abuse has been vindictive and over the top - and how family support has helped him through it.

Jake added: "We're a close family and I have a strong bond with my dad, and it's hard to take sometimes when you see what happens on a Saturday.

"That's why I think it's really important that after each game my dad has the family to go back to when it's not going so well, to make sure he's ready to come back and go again.

"Don't get me wrong, we've had many good times as well - but my mum knew the ins and outs of it when she married a footballer."
