Town 0 - 1 Peterborough

Jimmy Quinn's unbeaten run in friendlies was broken by a Steve Jenkins goal on 75 minutes.

Town had looked bright in the first half, after the Posh dominated the opening minutes with some sustained passing football. Despite their possesion, Peterborough's selection of gangly strikers never looked like getting through Town's defence.

Stuart Whitehead looked assured as he made his first Meadow start at centre half. Martin O' Connor also looked to boss the midfield, though it was occasionally evident that his brain is quicker than his feet.

Ryan Lowe had Town's best moment of the first half, when he went on a solo run an shot just wide of the Boro goal. Earlier, Duane Darby has twisted and turned on the edge of the box, only to see his shot blocked. Town had a few promising looking breaks, but the final ball rarely trouble the Posh defence.

The second half saw five subs, including Jody Banim and Ian Fitzpatrick, both eager to impress. Unfortunately neither did. Banim looked on a different wavelength to the rest of the team, his highlight being a specultaive volley over the bar. Fitzpatrick had little joy down the left.

Boro's goal came from one of their increasing foray's down the town left. Their fleet-footed right back was getting behind Town on a regular basis. Eventually, the pressure told as a cross from the Boro right caused problems in the box and Jenkins scrambled home. Town had been suspect from crosses in the second half and it was only a matter of time before the Posh scored.

As the second half progressed, the Town strikers looked more isolated; and less likely to score. Plenty to build on for the future though....
