Town merry-go-round continues

Shrewsbury have used 22 players so far this season, and boss Jimmy Quinn has hinted that there could be more new faces, as well as a temporary goodbye to some current players.

Ben Smith's injury has lead the boss to consider bringing in some loan cover. Quinn told ShrewsWeb: 'It's a case of looking at whether I need to bring someone in to cover Ben or if we'll be ok with what we already have got.'

Jimmy also said he had contacted Man Utd to enquire about loaning some of their young guns, 'It’s all about communication and if you don’t ask then you don’t get,' the Ulsterman added. Town have good relationship with the Red Devils after Lee Lawrence's successful loan last season.

There has also been talk of Martin O'Connor and Dave Edwards going to the Conference on loan, with Tamworth, Burton or Northwich being mentioned.

Quinn confirmed to ShrewsWeb that Tamworth had contacted him. He said: 'I had a phone call from Mark Cooper at Tamworth who's looking for an experienced midfield player and Martin fits that bill.'

Some fans may be wondering whether midfielders should be loaned out when one first teamer has just suffered serious injury.
