Town set for summer expedition

Assistant boss Dave Cooke announced the tour which will take place between July 20 and 24. The preparation should conclude with a tie against Conference side Exeter, who narrowly missed out on a play-off place.

Salop will also play local sides St Blazey and Millbrook who competed in the South Western League last season. This league is five tiers below the Conference, but St Blazey were champions last term. Town will play the two sides on the 21st and 22nd of July, with Blazey being the first fixture. The game against Exeter is scheduled for the 24th.

Cooke told the Shropshire Star: 'We've got to be careful because it could mean us having four games in the space of a week and I know Jimmy is keen that we don't overdo it,' referring to the Shropshire Senior Cup game with Bridgnorth on July 19th.

He added: 'We'll be taking a squad of 24 so we could mix and match but it might be a case of us dropping one of the games against the local Devon sides if we think it's too much.'

Some fans may be thinking that if Town can't overcome these lowly sides, then there really is something to worry about.
