Ben Smith also scored his forst Town goal in the 6-0 demolition. Kevin Street got the other two.

Assistant Dave Cooke told ShrewsWeb: 'The performance was a good one and it was nice to see it topped off with some well taken goals'.

Town will not be following up their interest in released Derby fullback Jim Turner. The 20-year-old failed to impress in Town's two friendlies in the South West, and had nothing that Town didn't have already, Town's management team said.

In other news, Shrewsbury will play newly reformed AFC Telford in the Shropshire Senior Cup final at the Meadow on Tusday. The phoenix side beat Ludlow 3-1 in the other semi-final.

Telford boss and former Town player Bernard McNally told the Shropshire Star: 'It was an important game to win for us because the fans wanted a final against Shrewsbury and we have given them that.'
