Town to tempt prolific striker

The possible move is another example of the club targetting players with whom Jimmy Quinn has worked before.

Quinn was the boss at Northwich when McNiven spent the 2002-3 season there, grabbing six goals. Dave Cooke, Quinn's assistant then and now, told the Shropshire Star: 'We know what he can do. He scores goals and we rate him highly'.

He cofirmed that they were 'very interested' in capturing the 26 year-old forward who banged in 26 goals last season, including two against the Shrews.

There are reports in Lancashire that McNiven will sign a new deal if the terms are right, but the temptation of League football could be too much for the journeyman striker.
