Turner looks to settle scores

Shrewsbury boss Graham Turner aims to avenge two play-off defeats by Aldershot to consolidate their League Two promotion chances this weekend."They beat us in the final when I was at Wolves and in the semi-finals at Hereford, so I've a few scores to settle," he told BBC Radio Shropshire.

Aldershot beat Wolves to promotion in the old Division Four in 1987, and in the Conference in 2004.

On both occasions, the Shots finished well below their victims in the table.

In 1987 - the first season of the modern play-offs - Aldershot finished seven points behind Wolves in the table, but shocked their opponents with a 3-0 aggregate win in the final.

In 2004, Aldershot had squeezed into the final play-off place in the Conference, finishing 20 points behind second-placed Hereford.

Alderhsot won over two legs, and then lost on penalties in the final - to Turner's present club Shrewsbury.

Turner had one other poignant memory of Aldershot, back in 1989. "We won there, again when I was at Wolves, but it was the day of the Hillsborough disaster," he added.

"Coming off the pitch celebrating the win soon paled into total insignificance when news from Hillsborough filtered in about the deaths there - so it would be nice to get a victory on Saturday and start to feel easier about the name of Aldershot."
