Mark Wright has been named Shrewsbury Town's player of the season by BBC Radio Shropshire - and been credited with the best goal in the club awards.Listeners to the station's post-match phone-ins voted Wright the winner - ahead of Ian Sharps and Jon Taylor.

He was edged out by Sharps at the club night, Taylor was young player of the year, and Wright's first in a hat-trick against Hereford was the top goal.

"Two awards is great, and to win one from the fans is special," he said.

Wright also picked up Shrewsbury's top-scorer trophy, his strike in the final game of the League Two campaign in a 3-0 win against Oxford took him to 14.

Town now face the play-offs.

Despite having a difficult time at Bristol Rovers last season, and this year being troubled by a hernia problem, the lively midfielder has a positive attitude.

"I've really enjoyed my football here, and it's been a real pleasure being at this club," he told BBC Radio Shropshire.
