Six-shooting Boston United provided the perfect Christmas present for their long-suffering supporters with a demolition job on Shrewsbury.

In the process, the Pilgrims ended a run of eight straight defeats and dented the Shrews recent run of improved results.

Boston began their goal charge in the 12th minute when Richard Logan got on the end of a Ben Chapman cross and steered the ball beyond keeper Ian Dunbavin.

Shrewsbury briefly rallied and home custodian Paul Bastock did well to beat away a low angled drive from Luke Rodgers.

However, it wasnÂ’t long before the home lead was doubled, all be it in somewhat fortunate circumstances with Shrews defender Jason Van Blerk steering the ball into his own net when trying to cut out a raking run by Mark Angel after 21 minutes.

Eight minutes later Boston extended their advantage when Logan netted with a glancing header from Simon WeatherstoneÂ’s cross.

The Pilgrims amazingly managed a fourth before the break when Stuart Douglas headed in from a Redfearn corner.

The second half was only two minutes old when Boston had another chance, Logan dispossessed Matthew Redmile but Dunbavin again saved well.

In the 53rd minute Rodgers tamely fired at Bastock as Shrewsbury tried to find a way back. But Boston answered with a fifth goal when Redfearn fired in direct from a 56th minute free kick.

The home side managed to keep up a purposeful tempo and Dunbavin again saved well to deny Logan and Weatherstone while at the other end his counterpart Bastock did well to push aside a shot from Ryan Lowe.

Boston pressed again and in the 75th minute Douglas rose to meet a cross from Peter Costello but saw the ball rebound of the bar. But the rout was completed in the final minute when James Gould slotted home Boston's sixth from an acute angle.
