Trotta volley does job

Marcello Trotta's first-half volley extended Brentford's winning run to three games and moved them into a play-off spot.

The striker was in the right place to smash home at the near post after a jinking run and cross from left winger Kadeem Harris.

The Italian almost made it two just before the break when he was played in by Adam Forshaw, but his goal-bound drive was tipped wide by keeper Chris Weale.

John Taylor gave the visitors their first attempt on goal just before the break, but his low drive was easily saved by David Button.

Taylor went close again after the restart, but his looping header was palmed over the bar by the Bees goalkeeper.

A game of few clear-cut chances was watched by a bumper Griffin Park crowd of almost 10,000 thanks to Brentford's 'pay what you can' initiative.

The home fans had their hearts in their mouths when Adam Reach flashed a rising drive just over the crossbar from 30 yards.

The goal Brentford wanted to seal the points almost came in the dying minutes, but substitute Sam Saunders rolled a low cross wide after good build-up play from Clayton Donaldson.
