Battling Shrewsbury came back from the dead to deny Macclesfield three vital points.

Their unbeaten run now stretches back to Boxing Day as they kept their play-off hopes alive with a courageous comeback.

They were handed a lifeline, however, by a soft own goal in 63 minutes that left centre-back Danny Swailes holding his head in his hands.

Uncertain what to do with a low Marc Tierney cross, the lumbering centre-back watched as it ricocheted off his out-stretched legs into the empty net.

The Shrews then equalised in the 73rd minute when Leo Fortune-West, on loan from Rushden & Diamonds, scored his fifth goal in five games. He held off the challenge of David Morley before rifling a fierce volley off the fingers of keeper Tommy Lee and into the top corner.

After an undistinguished opening Macclesfield had taken the lead in the 29th minute.

Swailes headed back across goal for Morley to thump a header off the underside of the cross-bar, and Matthew Tipton was first to react pouncing on the rebound to score from close range.

Tipton, making his first start since January 13th, then added his second goal of the game in the 52nd minute when he was put through after a neat cushioned header from strike partner John Murphy. Tipton still had work to do before drilling home a 12-yard shot in off the far post.

At the death both sides had chances to steal all the points. Shrewsbury's Michael Symes fluffing an easy opportunity from four yards before Alan Navarro forced a low save from keeper Chris MacKenzie on his goal-line.
