Collins settles matters for Shrews

James Collins' 13th goal of the season gave Shrewsbury a vital 1-0 win over Morecambe to maintain their automatic promotion push.

Collins picked up an excellent pass from Shrews captain Ian Sharps to fire a right-footed shot past Barry Roche and register the game's only goal after 68 minutes.

But the visitors did not make it easy for themselves, midfielder Jon Taylor shown red 10 minutes from time for an apparent headbutt on Shrimps midfielder Garry Hunter.

After an indifferent opening 45 minutes the Shrews controlled the second half, Collins and Nicky Wroe both having long-range shots saved by Roche before the visitors broke the deadlock.

Morecambe had started the game the brighter and controlled the first period, with Kevin Ellison coming closest to opening the scoring when he forced Town `keeper Chris Neal to tip a shot around his right-hand post five minutes before the break.

Following Taylor's dismissal the Shrimps pushed for an equaliser with substitute Jordan Burrow and Hunter both bringing good saves from Neal but Shrewsbury held on for the three points.
