Dons deny Shrews

Shrewsbury missed out on a club-record equalling eighth consecutive home win as they failed to crack open a resolute AFC Wimbledon defence in a feisty goalless draw.

The first-half started brightly when Ricky Wellard's 20-yard shot hit the bar in the fourth minute and James Mulley headed the rebound over. Moments later Lionel Ainsworth had a curling shot saved at full stretch by Seb Brown.

The visitors survived several goalmouth scrambles, with Mark Wright and Nicky Wroe seeing shots blocked.

AFC Wimbledon's defence was hard pressed for long spells in the second-half with Brown in fine form, not least to catch a deflected clearance from Sammy Moore, while home winger Wright missed a golden chance just after an hour, shooting wide from 10 yards.

Jamie Stuart appeared to handle inside the area five minutes from time, but the referee gave a free-kick two yards outside and Matt Richards' set piece strike was superbly saved one-handed by Brown.

The clean sheet was just what AFC Wimbledon wanted after conceding 12 times in their three previous matches.
