MK Dons mark League One return with a win at Shrewsbury
MK Dons started life after relegation from the Championship with a hard-earned 1-0 win at Shrewsbury.
Daniel Powell's second-half goal proved the difference as Karl Robinson's men collected maximum points at the Greenhous Meadow.
Dons threatened from two early corners with Dean Lewington heading over and Joe Walsh then brought a comfortable save from goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler.
But Shrewsbury, once they settled, started to pose the visitors problems
Louis Dodds dragged a shot wide after running at the defence before his well-struck effort was well held by goalkeeper David Martin, diving to his left.
AJ Leitch-Smith had a sight of goal but was denied by an excellent challenge from defender Walsh and then Jim O'Brien also went close for Shrewsbury when he fired narrowly wide from the edge of the penalty area.
Shaun Whalley attempted to break the deadlock for the hosts early in the second half, but his effort was safely gathered at his near post by the alert Martin.
Dons had found clear chances hard to come by until they struck the winner in the 73rd minute.
Shrewsbury sub Abu Ogogo was dispossessed in his own penalty area by Ed Upson and Powell rifled an angled shot powerfully past Leutwiler from 15 yards to settle a tight game in favour of the visitors.
