Shrewsbury 1-0 Notts County- Match Report

Derry's maiden win out of Reach

Adam Reach's fine strike wrapped up a hard-earned 1-0 win for Shrewsbury against a Notts County side who remain rooted to the foot of the League One table.

County, who have now lost all four games under recently-appointed manager Shaun Derry, almost took a second-minute lead when Marcus Haber was sent clear but Town goalkeeper Chris Weale came out quickly to make a fine save.

Shrewsbury gradually grew into the game and County 'keeper Bartosz Bialkowski had to be alert to keep out an Aaron Wildig effort after the midfielder, later stretchered off injured, broke into the penalty area.

Bialkowski then tipped over a Reach shot before Shrewsbury striker Gozie Ugwu, on loan from Reading, smashed a close-range effort against the underside of the crossbar.

Campbell-Ryce drove narrowly over for the visitors at the start of the second half but Shrewsbury continued to look the more dangerous side and, after Darren Jones headed a corner just wide, the breakthrough finally arrived in the 73rd minute.

Ugwu headed down a Ryan Woods cross and Middlesbrough loanee Reach thumped home a low drive from the edge of the penalty area for his second goal of the season.

County rallied and Jack Grealish and Manny Smith both forced late saves from 'keeper Weale as Shrewsbury held on.
