Shrewsbury Town completed a memorable few days in terms of cup competitions when they snatched a dramatic golden goal victory over visiting Port Vale.

Two days after being drawn against Premiership Everton for a lucrative third round FA Cup home tie in early January, Ryan Lowe struck five minutes into the second period of extra time to secure the Shrews' 2-1 win and a place in the LDV Vans Trophy regional semi-finals.

On a bitterly cold night at Gay Meadow, Luke Rodgers fired home his 12th goal of the season to give Shrewsbury a third minute lead, but second division Vale levelled on the hour through Mark Boyd.

Right at the death Shrewsbury midfielder Mark Atkins had a penalty superbly saved bu Vale keeper Mark Goodlad, with Port Vale midfield man John Durnin sent off at the end of the 90 minutes for prolonging his protests at the award of the spot-kick.

Then in the 110th minute Lowe scored with a well-struck shot to clinch a deserved win for third division Shrewsbury.
