Louis Dodds strike dumps Huddersfield out of EFL Cup
Louis Dodds struck 13 minutes from time as League One Shrewsbury sent Championship Huddersfield out of the EFL Cup at the first hurdle with a 2-1 victory.
Ajay Leitch-Smith had given the Shrews a flying start with a first-minute opener but Elias Kachunga hauled the Terriers level six minutes before the break.
But Dodds was to be the hero when he latched onto Ivan Toney's ball to win it.
Shrewsbury stunned the Terriers by taking the lead after just 20 seconds when Joe Riley and Jim O'Brien combined neatly before Leitch-Smith's shot from 12 yards took a deflection on its way past goalkeeper Danny Ward.
The visitors responded by controlling the first half for long stages but Jack Payne, a summer signing from Southend, was unable to make the most of a succession of chances.
He flicked narrowly wide of the far post with only Jayson Leutwiler to beat before seeing two other efforts saved by the Swiss goalkeeper.
But Huddersfield's pressure finally told with a 39th-minute equaliser as Aaron Mooy's cross from the left was headed in from close range by Elias Kachunga.
Rajiv Van La Parra drove just wide from distance early in the second half, but Shrewsbury competed well throughout and caused Huddersfield problems with substitutes Toney and Ethan Jones both lively.
Shrewsbury delivered the knockout blow in the 77th minute when Ward was unable to keep out a low shot from 15 yards from Dodds after he'd been set up by Toney to send Micky Mellon's men into the second round.
