Shrewsbury 2 York 2

Lowly Shrewsbury Town and high-flying York City shared the points and four goals from a mixed bag of a match at Gay Meadow.

Hot-shot striker Luke Rodgers struck twice to earn Kevin Ratcliffe's men a point, but in between his 13th and 14th goals of the season, Graham Potter and the impressive Jon Parkin netted for City as the visitors struck twice in 60 seconds around the hour mark to establish a 2-1 lead.

But they also had to settle for a share of the spoils after Rodgers blasted home Shrewsbury's leveller 17 minutes from time.

Following their 5-0 hammering at Cambridge on Saturday, Ratcliffe made four changes with goalkeeper Mark Cartwright - having recently re-joined the club after a spell playing in America - called up for his first start of the season, with on-loan Rotherham midfield man Stuart Talbot, who only joined Shrewsbury on Tuesday given an immediate debut.

The opening half-hour proved largely uneventful, but in the 31st minute a speculative drive from Rodgers slipped from the grasp of York keeper Michael Ingham and rolled into the net to give Shrewsbury the lead.

Two minutes after the re-start Rodgers missed a great chance to put Shrewsbury further ahead, after being put through by skipper and strike partner Nigel Jemson.

It appeared Shrewsbury would rue that miss and other wasted opportunities, when the game was suddenly turned on its head.

On the hour Potter saw his curling shot elude Cartwright - and although a linesman had raised the flag for offside, referee Hill ruled the offender was not in active play and allowed the goal to stand.

Then with Shrewsbury still reeling, just a minute later Parkin raced clear to put York ahead with a neat finish.

But their hopes of returning home with all three points were dashed in the 73rd minute - and while Ingham could be blamed for Shrewsbury's opener, he was given no chance as Rodgers lashed home a superb angled drive.
