Shrewsbury Town romped to a 4-1 home victory over early-season Conference pacesetters and near neighbours Hereford United, in a game they dominated from first until last.

Set on their way by a 12th minute strike from Martin O'Connor, Colin Cramb doubled the Shrews' advantage before the break, with second-half strikes from midfielder Kevin Street and home debutant Duane Darby sealing an emphatic win, while Tamika Mkandawire grabbed a consolation for the Bulls at the death.

Despite seeing his side collect seven points from their last three matches, Shrewsbury boss Jimmy Quinn moved to further strengthen his squad yesterday by snapping up former Stoke and West Brom full-back Graham Potter on a months' loan from Boston, with Potter given an immediate debut before the largest Gay Meadow crowd of the season.

Unhappy with dropping points in the 2-2 draw at Leigh RMI earlier in the week, Shrewsbury were quickly into their stride and it was no surprise when they went ahead in the 13th minute, although O'Connor's 20-yarder took a deflection off a Hereford defender to wrong-foot stranded keeper Matt Baker.

Twelve minutes before the break Shrewsbury's dominance paid further dividends when Cramb slipped his marker to score with a rising shot from ten yards.

Despite the visitors making a brighter start to the second half, the game was up for them when Kevin Street touched home Shrewsbury's third from close range on 55 minutes.

Ten minutes from time, Darby marked his home debut with a first goal in Shrewsbury colours since joining the club from Rushden & Diamonds, sliding home a pass from Shrewsbury substitute Luke Rodgers.

Despite Mkandawire netting in the dying seconds to give the large contingent of visiting support something to cheer, there was no denying an emphatic Shrews win.
