But with many names being linked to the post, including Paul Sturrock and Steve Cotterill, Ince said he had not been approached.

"There's been no contact," he told BBC Radio Shropshire. "At this moment in time, nothing has been said.

"I'm just spending time with my family and playing a bit of golf. I know of Shrewsbury, I know they've got a fantastic stadium. But at this moment in time I'm leaving Milton Keynes next week."

Ince resigned as MK Dons boss and will leave the club at the end of the season after playing Walsall in League One. The former Blackburn manager said he will assess all his options in the near future.

"I want a club which is ambitious and wants to go forward, whether that's in the Premiership or League Two it doesn't matter," he added.

The former England international first joined MK Dons in 2007 and led them to the League Two title and Johnstone's Paint Trophy final.

Ince left in summer 2008 to take over as Blackburn boss but was sacked after just six months in charge.
