Sean McAllister says he is ready to join Shrewbury Town's push for promotion from League Two after recovering from a hernia operation. The midfielder, who has played 21 times this season, lasted 90 minutes in the mid-week reserves defeat at Morecambe.

"I've played most of the season with the problem and it flared up over Christmas," the 23-year-old told BBC Radio Shropshire.

"I feel fit enough to fight for a first team place now."

McAllister last played for the Shrews on 22 January in the 0-0 draw with league leaders Chesterfield and his replacements have flourished in Graham Turner's side.

"It's always frustrating getting injuries," he added.

"David Davis and Nicky Wroe have come in and done well, but I will be pushing them and the whole team to get promoted."

Shrewsbury play Stockport County on Saturday as they continue their bid to reach the top three and gain automatic promotion.

They are currently fourth in League Two, three points behind Wycombe.
